A fire broke out at a high-rise block of flats in south-east London, with its cause now under investigation.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called to the flats on Rosenthal Road in Catford at 12:51 BST.

About 70 firefighters and 10 fire engines were sent.

By 14:15 the brigade said the fire was under control and there we no reports of injuries.

The brigade said it received almost 50 reports of the fire and that two flats on the ninth and 10th floors were “alight”.

It said all residents evacuated the building safely.

The fire appears to have been fully extinguished and firefighters were seen loading up their vehicles with the equipment used to help bring the situation under control.

Pictures of the block show the blackened windows of three apartments on the top three floors at the south-east corner of tower – homes which appear to have sustained serious damage.

Directly below them is another apartment where the window seems to have been burnt out.

Both sides of the street remain lined with fire engines and crowds of locals remain gathered round as they try to take in what happened.

Fire crews from Forest Hill, Greenwich, Deptford, Lee Green and surrounding fire stations are at the scene.

Rushey Green is closed between Rosenthal Road and Honley Road, added the LFB.
